While genetics and family history often play a large role in determining your risks for certain diseases, there are many steps you can take and ways that you can reduce your health risks, including your risk for developing the leading causes of death for women in the United States.
The term "heart disease" refers to several types of heart conditions, most commonly coronary artery disease, which can cause heart attack. Other kinds of heart disease may involve the valves in the heart, or the heart may not pump well and cause heart failure.
Cancer is the 2nd leading cause of death for women in the U.S. with lung cancer being the most common cause of cancer deaths, followed by breast cancer, then colorectal cancer.
